%X This work represent the beginning of an analysis on how the features that are related to different urban land uses can be related to the textural features in digital images. It also considers how the use of these textural features can improve the automatic classification of urban areas. This relation is usually considered in visual interpretation. The intention of this study is to extract textural information by digital processing techniques. The literature indicates that textural informations are not enough to the classification, but that this kind of information could be associated with spectral data to improve the classification to be obtained. This study considers the extraction and application of a "textural band" obtained using the "moving window" technique. In this stage, the textural quality that is evaluated is the mean of the digital levels in the window. The next stages in this study include a more detailed and quantifield evaluation of other textural characteristics that can be extracted from digital images, and the influence of the different resolutions of the sensors, considering the spatial dinamic of the land uses considered.
