| Abstract | Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia para elaborar mapas de vulnerabilidade natural à perda de solo. O objetivo destes mapas é subsidiar o Zoncamento Ecológico Econômico da Amazônia. Esta metodologia foi desenvolvida com base no conceito de Ecodinâmica e na reinterpretação de dados temáticos preexistentes com a utilização de imagens de satélite, que permitem uma visão sinótica e holística da paisagem. A análise e interpretação destas imagens é feita considerando-se os padrões fotográficos identificados pelas variações de cores, textura, forma, padrões de drenagem e relevo. A vulnerabilidade das unidades de paisagem é estabelecida por meio de uma escala de valores relativos e empiricos de acordo com a relação morfogênese/pedogêne analisando-se individualmente cada um dos temas: geologia, geomorfologia, pedologia, vegetação, uso da terra e clima. Para o tratamento digital das imagens usadas como "âncora" nesta metodologia, editar os Planos de Informação, bem como montar e manipular o banco de dados que a acompanha, utilizou-se o software SPRING (Sistema de Processamento de Informações Geo-referenciadas desenvolvido no INPE). ABSTRACT: This paper presents a methodology to map the natural soil loss vulnerability. The objective of these maps is to support the Ecological and Economical Zoning of the Amazon. The methodology was developed based upon the Ecodynamic concept and on the reclassification of previous thematic data with the aid of satellite image interpretation, which aided the synoptic and holistic perception of the landscape. The analysis and interpretation of those images is based on photographic patterns such as color, texture, shape, drainage patterns and topography. The vulnerability of landscape units is based on empirical relative values according to the relationship between morphogenese/pedogenese for each of the main variables: geology, geomorphology, pedology, vegetation, land use and climate.
