| Abstract | O grande volume e a amplitude da vazão do rio Tocantins, influem diretamente na ocorrência de gradientes longitudinais e laterais no reservatório de Tucuruí. Através da manipulação estatística de dados coletados in situ para um período de cinco anos e dados hidrológicos, foi verificada a influência altamente significativa (alpha=0,01) da sazonalidade da vazão afluente deste rio no processo de geração de massas de água superficiais e de como esta vazão afeta o estado trófico do reservatório. Os resultados foram posteriormente validados através da utilização de cinco imagens orbitais e serviram para caracterizar os limites espaço-temporais das zonas longitudinais e laterais do reservatório, na qual foi possível identificar condições predominantemente fluviais no corpo central do reservatório para o período chuvoso e, para esta mesma região, um comportamento predominantemente lacustre no período seco. Além disso, em função dos resultados encontrados para a região litoral (situada nos braços dendríticos e rasos), constatou-se que esta possui um metabolismo próprio em relação ao resto do reservatório, na qual se caracteriza como uma região lacustre durante o ano inteiro. Foi discutida também a importância deste local na filtragem de nutrientes oriundos das bacias de captação adjacente e a função dessas regiões na produtividade primária do reservatório. ABSTRACT: The large water flow and seasonality of Tocantins river affects the lateral and longitudinal stratification of the Tucuruí reservoir. The statistical analyses of a data base with limnological measurements made during 5 years in the Tucuruí reservoir showed that there are significant differences (alpha=0,01) in the limnological variables between the dry and the rainy season. The changes in the water flow are therefore responsible for changes in the trophic state of the Tucuruí reservoir. These results were confirmed by using five TM/LANDSAT images that clearly show the lateral and longitudinal stratification of optical properties of the reservoir. The litoral zone was shown to be different from the central zone of the reservoir since it keeps a lake-type metabolism during the whole year. The importance of this region which acts as a filter for nutrients coming from the lateral catchment basins is also discussed. | |||||||||
