| Abstract | A previsão de safras agrícolas é uma tarefa prioritária do governo, tendo em vista sua importância para a economia do País. Nas últimas duas décadas, o INPE tem desempenhado papel importante nas áreas de pesquisa e de disseminação da tecnologia de Sensoriamento Remoto com a finalidade de aprimorar a qualidade de estimativas agrícolas. Como o uso de técnicas computacionais é indispensável quando se trata de grandes volumes de dados, o acompanhamento dos últimos avanços tecnológicos, tanto em hardware como em software, é crucial para produzir estimativas mais precisas em tempo hábil. Este relatório apresenta as mais recentes atividades de pesquisa de United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) para o programa de previsão de safras, que conheci durante visita técnica realizada em agosto, 1992. As experiencias da USDA, especialmente do projeto CASS, servirão como indicações para o projeto SIAGRO, da cooperação INPE/IBGE. ABSTRACT: The prediction of agricultural crops is a high-priority task of the government, given its importance to the economy of the country. In the last two decades, INPE has played an important role in the areas of research and dissemination of remote sensing technology in order to improve the quality of agricultural estimates. As the use of computational techniques is indispensable when it comes to large volumes of data, the monitoring of the latest technological advances, both in hardware and software, is crucial to produce more accurate estimates in a timely manner. This report presents the latest research activities of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for the prediction of program crops, which I met during a technical visit in August, 1992. The experiences of the USDA, especially the CASS project, will serve as indications to the SIAGRO project, of the INPE / IBGE co-operation. | ||||||
