| Abstract | Imagens Landsat, fotografias aéreas convencionais e Image-100, foram utilizadas para estimativas populacionais e de crescimento de áreas urbanas no Estado de São Paulo. O método de regressão linear, simples e múltipla, foi utilizado nas estimativas populacionais das áreas testes analisadas. O monitoramento de crescimento urbano foi realizado através do Image-100 para a cidade de São Jose dos Campos no período de setembro de 1972 a junho de 1976. Os resultados da pesquisa mostraram a viabilidade de utilização das imagens Landsat para estimativas populacionais em períodos inter-censitarios. Permitiram, também, avaliar tendências da expansão urbana de maneira mais rápida quando comparada aos métodos convencionais de pesquisa. ABSTRACT: LANDSAT MSS Imagery, conventional aerial photographs and the Image-100 system were used to estimate population and growth of urban areas in the State of São Paulo. Simple and multiple linear regression methods were used to estimate urban population in the test sites analysed. The monitoring of urban growth was conducted with the Dnage-100 system for the city of São José dos Campos for the period September 1972 to June 1976. The research results showed the viability of using LANDSAT imagery for population estimations during an intercensal period. It also provided for the evaluation of urban growth tendencies more rapidly as compared to conventional methods of research. | |||
