AbstractEm trabalho anterior (Ono, 1990) foram avaliados os desempenhos de vários filtros redutores de speckle em imagens reais de radar de abertura sintética (SAR), sob o ponto de vista da melhoria da relação sinal-ruído. Esta dissertação propõe-se a estender tal trabalho, sob três aspectos: (a) estudar o desempenho comparativo dos filtros analisados por Ono (1990) e os filtros desenvolvidos por Frery e Sant'Anna (1993b) sob o ponto de vista da melhoria do desempenho de classificação ponto a ponto por máxima verossimilhança, utilizando imagens SAR reais e em duas bandas (L e X); (b) estudar os filtros mencionados anteriormente sob ponto de vista da perda de resolução espacial. Tal perda é avaliada por dois métodos distintos: um através de deteção de bordas que utiliza um conjunto de imagens simuladas com ruído speckle e bordas ideais, e o outro através da medida da resolução em 4dB da resposta impulsiva de uma fonte pontual em uma imagem simulada; e (c) ampliar o estudo da a relação sinal-ruído destes filtros utilizando medidas de qualidade em uma imagem simulada. Além disso, propõem-se também, novos filtros pontuais e adaptativos redutores de speckle, sob o critério maximum a posteriori (critério MAP), levando-se em consideração o tipo de deteção no processador (linear ou quadratica) e diferentes modelagens da distribuição a priori do retroespalhamento (backscatter). ABSTRACT: In a previous work (Ono, 1990) the performance of several speckle reduction filters in real SAR images was evaluated from the standpoint of the signal-to-noise ratio improvement. This dissertation aims at extending that work in three directions: (a) the comparison of the relative performances of the filters analysed by Ono (1990) and those introduced by Frery and Sant'Anna (1993b) from the standpoint of the maximum likelihood pixel-to-pixel classification behaviour, using real SAR images and in two bands (L and X); (b) the study of the aforementioned filters from the standpoint of resolution loss. Such spatial resolution loss is evaluated by means of two different methods: one through edge detection, over a set of simulated speckled images and ideal edges, and the other, through the measure of the resolution at 4dB of the point spread function of a point target in a simulated image; (c) the enlarged study of signal- to-noise ratio of these filters using quality measures in a simulated image. Besides that, new pointwise and adaptive filters are proposed for speckle noise reduction: the ones based upon the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion, taking into account the kind of detection (linear or quadratic) and several models for the a priori backscatter distribution.
